My Current shopping list

I have been working on my house for the last few months, and you can bet there are a lot of things on my shopping list at this point. I have been thinking about shopping for Notebooks instead of having my desktop. I would love to be able to watch tv and do my homework at the same time, because I am not one of those people who have a problem multi-tasking. I also need to research Cables & Connectors so I can get an adapter to plug my iPod into my new Mazda3. I have been trying to clip all the loose wires along the molding so it looks better in my living room. Hopefully soon I will move the TVs out of the house and be able to spend more time on productive hobbies. By the end of the year I will have to do something because my TVs will apparently be obsolete and I would need to get digital TV, which I am pretty sure I will refuse to do. So, that problem will take care of itself. I love other electronics though. One thing I love is my GPS & Navigation system in my car. I love that you don't have to download new maps and it just gives directions by satellite, although sometimes in NYC it is a little tricky.

Digital Camcorders

Last summer I decided to purchase a digital camcorder. I wound up having to do a lot of research because I had no clue what I was looking for or where to start. The reason i wanted a video recorder was to get footage of my pets as unfortunately they are getting older and I always want to have lasting memories of how adorable they are. This was extremely important to me so even though I have had to watch what I spend, I splurged on this because the memories are so much more important. I had used my friends video camera a couple times but I didn't like having to use someone else's equipment and not being familiar with it. Not knowing the various features of it made it that much more difficult to capture that great moment before it was gone.

So, whenever I do research I like to consult the various Top 10 lists out there to see which products are standing out from the rest. One guide I found on camcorder reviews was at ExpoTV. They even had my camcorder listed as one of the best! I was really impressed that they mentioned all the best features of the Canon camcorder that I have, and it received 4.5 stars. They have reviews by users, and where you can find the product at the best price. The reviews are in video, so you can really gauge the sincerity of the reviewers.

While browsing the site, I found a great feature that I wish I had known about when making my purchase. The Flip Video camcorder fits into your pocket so you can carry it anywhere with you. That seems so much more convenient than having to pack a camcorder bag with all the equipment. It stores up to 60 minutes of video recording. This sounds really neat and its even convenient for getting in those tight spots that the ferrets hide in!

Today's posts were made possible in part by ExpoTV.

Already planning for Halloween

Last October I had a Carve-Your-Own Pumkin themed party shortly before Halloween. It went really great and everyone had a ton of fun. We went and bought pumpkins pretty affordably at a local store and brought them in for people. I also bought a couple pumpkin-carving kits for my guests to use. We spread newspapers all over the floor and went to town! There was even scary music and treats for all.

This year, I am planning on having another Halloween party. This time I think I will have a costume party rather than a carving party. There is so much variety on which kinds of costumes to wear but I always seem to have the same old ideas. A baby, an angel, a ghost (the old sheet over your head lol), a Spice Girl....

I was browsing for costumes on the internet and found a site that features Disney and Star Wars Halloween costumes. This is really a great idea because these are really hugely popular themes for costumes, because so many people enjoy the Disney and Star Wars characters. Of course they have tons of other Halloween costumes too, so many it would take you a long time to look through them all. i like the Disney characters myself, because I grew up watching the Disney Channel and know them all. My favorite has always been Sleeping Beauty but Ariel from the Little Mermaid comes in a close second. The costume for Ariel is really great for a grown up party! I will have to pass this site along to my friend who absolutely adores all-things-Disney.

My skin woes

I recently decided to go to a dermatologist for my skin care problems. I did not much of a problem when I was a teenager, I could use great skin care products without having to worry they would make me break out. My skin was very resilient and I had a zit once in a while but that was pretty much it.

Now, in my twenties, I have had a problem with acne for a few years now. I don't have that many blemishes at one time, but once I do get a pimple, I am left with a red mark on my face after it is gone. I had seen a dermatologist once before for an acne cure, and she recommended I try Differin. I did not like this acne medication at all- it left me with dry skin and peeling. What I did after that was basically stop washing my face all together for a while and instead rinsed my skin in the shower and applied face moisturizer afterwards.

I tried going to a local spa for a facial and information on natural skin care. The esthetician recommended I use a Phyto cream to help 'calm' my skin. I really liked using this green gel because it made my skin feel moisturized and cool. I used it for a while but I didn't really see a difference unfortunately. As you will see below, I think I had a skin condition that required more clinical intervention.

I started to notice that my skin was flushing a lot more freuqently, especially after a glass of wine or a hot bath. You should see me at the gym! My face would get so red and inflamed I felt like everyone was looking at me. I did some research and started to think I had a condition called rosacea. What also led me to this conclusion was one of the symptoms of rosacea, where what you think are pimples are actually things called postules that stay for a while and then leave a mark behind. So now I am on medication for rosacea and I really hope it will work. It says to give it a month but already I think I can see the difference- maybe that is just wishful thinking! My dermatologist also advised me on what types of sunscreen and organic cosmetics would be best for my skin condition. I was looking on the internet for skin care products that met these guidelines, and I found a line called Lavere. This line of products looks really great because they are all-natural and are missing a lot of the harsh chemicals that drugstore brands contain. As I continue to focus more attention on my appearance and looking the best I can, you can bet I will be trying out some of their products!

Decorating my House

I have been spending a lot of time lately thinking about how I want to decorate my house. I have a new cleaning schedule now and things are clean and orderly for the most part, so it is time to go beyond organization and cleaning, to decorating it to reflect who I am as a person and what I think looks nice. Here are some ideas I have:

1. Paint the kitchen so it is not an ugly mint green anymore.

2. Paint the living room so it is darker and has more ambience.

3. Hang pictures! My parents need to show me how to do this cause I have plaster walls and because of that, if I don't secure the pictures, shelves, or whatever, they will fall right out and I can just imagine them hitting me in the head!

The thing I need to do first, before any of this, is replace the shag rug from my office. I had to get rid of this thing because it shed so much, there was shedded hair from it all over my house, all the time! Also the ferrets were eating it inadvertently too, probably. I already got rid of it and put it into storage, and now I just have to find an affordable rug. I was looking at IKEA and Target, and saw some nice things, but I don't know, it just seems like you get what you pay for there. I was looking for something where there was a little more selection and quality. I googled some stuff and did some research online on where to find rugs online and I found this site on cheap area rugs. Just what I was looking for!

Now, to decide what kind of rug I want. I don't think I want an oriental area rug because I don't think that would really match the style of my home. I like how you can search by size of rug here too, cause you know you want to make sure the rug won't look silly in the room you have it in. A rug can really make a room look smaller, bigger, or change the whole feel of the room.

They have some really neat area rugs at this online store. Designs I have not seen anywhere, and like I mentioned above, I have in fact been looking around for a nice rug that matches my decor but doesn't break my bank. Look at how cool this one is:

I have never seen anything like it anywhere, but its so cool looking! I searched for burgundy rugs, just to see what they have because my room is done in brown and burgundy, and found this really nice one:

That is definetly something I may purchase!

How to buy insurance

At my last job, on our first day of orientation we were asked whether we wanted to purchase term life insurance or not. At the time, I had no idea of the difference between term life insurance and regular life insurance. I had no idea if I wanted it, and if so, how much I wanted taken out of my paycheck in terms of the amount of coverage later if something were to happen to me. The human resources person had to spend a lot of time explaining to everyone in the orientation class, how to choose what we wanted and sign up. Since I don't have children, I wasn't sure whether to purchase any at all but I figured hopefully it could go towards taking care of my pets if something bad happened to me.

At the time, the company I was working with had contracts with a specific company but I am wondering if it would have to our advantage to shop around for life insurance quotes before just assuming this was the best deal out there.

Well this is not a problem I am facing anymore, as that company was not a good fit for me and I am having a much better time at my current company. But if I ever do need life insurance again, I will make sure to research a lot more about it and make sure I am getting the best life insurance rates .

Hawaii Vacations

A few months ago, my parents went on a trip to Hawaii and I believe they stayed in Hawaii beachfront cottages. Can you imagine how beautiful it must have been? It is always better to rent a house for a week anyway because you can save so much money on dining and have the comforts of home right at your fingertips. I would recommend this as a better alternative to anyone thinking of staying anywhere for a week or longer. Besides the beautiful lodgings they had, this was also their first trip to Hawaii. From Newark to Hawaii takes probably 12 hours or more if I recall correctly. I have only ever been on a plane for 5 hours so I can't imagine how to get through a 12 hour flight.

One of the first things I want to do when I get my financial planning in order is start to save up for my next vacation. I would absolutely love to go to Hawaii, or somewhere where the water is beautifully clear and warm. Ahhh. I can just imagine it now. I should post some pictures up from when my parents went to Hawaii, as a matter of fact!

Starting my own internet business?

I always get so many great ideas for internet businesses that I think would do really well. I have a bit of a creative site if I do say so myself. And an entrepreneurial spirit. I have even taken classes at a local community college on operating a small business. The only problem, and the biggest problem, is I don't know how to build a website! I don't know the first thing about html and all those different languages. It is amazing to me just how many people DO know how to do all that stuff though, as I can tell from my various visits to people's websites through my job.

There are really so many different aspects to running a business besides the initial creation of a good looking site though. You have to decide who your distributors are going to be or if you are going to create something yourself to sell. Then you have to market your site to people who may be interested in purchasing your product. Last but DEFINETLY not least is how will you take payment from your customers? I have heard so many horror stories about people calling their credit card companies to contest payments and the business gets screwed because the credit card companies have to act on behalf of their credit card holders for the most part.

There are plenty of companies out there who will help you in being able to do credit card transactions. Because I mean, who needs the hastle of always going through PayPal or ack, waiting for checks of COD's? That is absolute murder on your cash flow!

One of the companies I found has a ton of information on this page. All I did was google up some information on 'credit card purchases' and merchant research information and I found so much great information on this Merchant Account company!

Online Dating is Here to Stay

Well I am not in the market for a new boyfriend but if I was, I would definetly consider an online dating site. Once you get out of college there is just not a fool-proof way to meet new people anymore! I know with my current lifestyle, when I go out at night I am with a herd of friends and definetly not approachable to someone looking to pick me up. Online dating is definetly here to stay. It is so much more accepted than it used to be! I took a look at the site JustSayHi and there were even people from my area in NJ there.

I wonder what I would look for at this point in my life if I were to place an ad. I don't even know what maximum age limit I would go up to. 30? 35? That seems crazy but I am almost 30 myself!

So anyway if you are looking for a way to meet new guys or girls, and find people to go on dates with, I definetly would not be afraid or embarassed in the slightest to use an internet dating site.

Planning a Bachelorette Party

Well I don't remember if I have mentioned this before but last month I was asked to be a bridesmaid in a friends wedding. I am very honored because I have never been in a wedding before and it just makes me feel valuable to my friends, like I have made a difference in their life somehow. With the sense of honor I feel a strong sense of responsibility to be the best bridesmaid ever! I just really want to be there for her and never complain or whine about the time or financial commitments like I see so many other bridesmaids do. Its not right and I personally would be devastated if I were planning a wedding and my bridesmaids made me feel like I was imposing on them.

That being said, one of the obligations I am most excited about is to help the maid-of-honor plan the bachelorette party! Woo-hoo! And since I know the maid-of-honor really well I know I will really get to have my say about what we do. The bride-to-be has already said she wants the party to last an entire weekend- one night a smaller slumber party with closer friends and some family, and the other night more wild at Atlantic City probably. I was looking around on the internet for some ideas for bachelorette parties and what we can do to make the night all the more wild and exciting. I didn't realize in other areas of the world they are called stag or hen parties. Apparently there are companies that will orchestrate the whole event for you, and you can have one all over the world! Can you imagine? I saw some of the photos of tropical islands where you can have your 'hen party'. That would be so amazing, and if it were my hypothetical wedding instead of my friends, it would fit in great with the destination wedding I am really dying to have.

Real Estate Memories

I was listening to NJ 101.5 on the way to work this morning, and they were talking about the real estate market and how the price of homes has really taken a nosedive. They were saying a few years ago you could your home on the market and buyers would be lining up at the front door to buy the home. Well, not quite. I was in fact a real estate agent a couple of years ago so I knew the market pretty well, although I was a beginner so I couldn't really speak in terms of how it compared to the past. At the time I was a real estate agent prices were so high that buyers often wanted to wait or wanted special discounts from the seller. They could not fathom paying so much and in a way I could agree with them! That is why I never felt very good acting enthusiastic about a property that I didn't really believe was worth it. Plus people really did not give me a lot of credit and I admit I was a bit immature at the time. I really had no place selling anybody a home.

I imagine nowadays real estate agents have to do a lot more when looking for new and loyal clients. Many people are not ready to buy still cause they are afraid of the home value going down. One valuable way to stand out in prospective buyer's mind is in the use of promotional marketing products. I am sure everyone has seen calendars or pens with a business name or logo on them. I am not sure how well things like pens work, but other products can really be appeciated by clients and seen as fantastic corporate gifts. I remember my mentor at the real estate office where I worked would hand out packets of flower seeds for clients to remember her in the spring when they are planting their garden (also a popular time of year to be getting your home ready to sell). Another great and appreciated gift were the rubber jar openers.

As I was taking this trip down memory lane this morning, I decided to look up some business promotional products to see what is out there nowadays. While a lot of the things you can get are pretty much the same across the board, it is important to look for unique marketing products that are affordable and good quality. You don't want the very gift that represents your quality and service to break on the potential client!

Old-fashioned bathroom: retro or out-dated?

I was actually in the bathroom early this morning, about to take a shower, when I was looking around my bathroom and wondering how it appears to friends and strangers. I am so used to it looking the same for all my life, since I live at my grandparent's house that they built. My bathroom has green avacado colored tiles and white fixtures. It looks very 1960s to me. Maybe a bit earlier as it is not quite so ugly as the green appliance hues of the 1960s. To me it seems pretty comforting and we can even get the tiles and tub pretty sparkling. But ever since my party a few weeks ago I have been wondering how the decor came off to people who haven't seen how I am living, and I am wondering if too many it would appear outdated.

When I think of bathrooms nowadays, I think of updated shower stalls that are all one piece and even go over what is already existing in the bathroom. I also think of pedestal sinks and brightly lit vanity mirrors above the sinks. I have even seen some funky faucets on those home decorating shows on tv. I am not sure where on my list of priorities updating the bathroom falls. On the one hand, I don't really like the colors. On the other hand, there is a real old-fashioned comfy feel I have going on right now and I don't want to mess it up too much by making the wrong decorating decision and coming up with something that looks cold and space-age.

One thing I have been thinking about every day since I have been spending time taking baths with oils and bubbles that I got for Christmas, is getting a heated towel rack. Right now I drape my towel on the radiator but it doesn't warm the towel up that much. I would love love love a cozy hot towel right after the bath on those freezing winter days.

I wish i had money!

of course now that I am so much in debt I am always running into opportunities I wish I had the money for. I have always been wanting to get into stocks, even day trading. It seems exciting but I suppose you have to know a lot more about trading than I do at this point, but I thought penny stocks would be a safe way of starting to grasp the concepts of trading and watching the numbers throughout the day.

The particular opportunity I ran into recently was buying and selling gold online. I've always seen tv ads for buying gold coins and stuff and I never really appreicated the value of gold bullion. The closest thing I have heard about are rumors that there are streets in NYC and Washington DC that are 'paved' with gold meaning gold is stored far underground but under the streets we walk on. I am not sure if that is true or not. Anyway since my financial advisor told me to start planning for things like vet bills, and not considering them an emergency expense but something I set aside money for, I may invest some of the money I am storing away into an investment like this to build up my savings. This site doesn't let you store the gold yourself which has good points and bad points. On the one hand you don't have to go through the hassle of figuring out where to safely store gold in a bank vault or somewhere on your property like they did in the olden days. On the other hand a crazy person like me would want to hold the gold and be able to go "Ooh' and "Ahh" over the pure gold. I also fancy the notion of burying it in my backyard with a treasure map in a hollow book in my bookshelf or something like that, but that is probably very idiotic. The handy chart that this gold company has on their website makes me think I could definetly learn a thing or two about buying and selling costs from analyzing the prices of gold and how they change around the world. this is an opportunity for me to really think about once I start building a fund for large expenses I will need in the medium-term.

I had such a weird dream last night. i met Paris Hilton somewhere and her posse and we were all gonna go back swimming at her house. we were walking and going around some trees and stuff and apparently, she explained to me, it was a secret entrance to avoid the paparazzi. Then I was changing into my swimsuit and everyone went ahead of me outside to the pool, so I was lost and couldn't find my way outside. i ran into her mom, and offered to shake her hand and she pretended her hands were dirty but really she didnt want to shake my hand. then i was wandering around some more trying to find the way outside when I ran into her mom again talking to her brother or something. her dog was there, a golden lab, and they had had gold buttons sewn into the dogs fur on the back so the dog looked like it was wearing a royal suit or something. i complimented the dog and the mom warmed up to me slightly after that. then i finnally found my way to the back where there was this free form swimming pool, it looked like a wave pool cause it had no sides only gradual incline up to the regular ground level. i kept trying to put my sunglasses at the side of the pool but they kept falling in. i think nicole richie was there. the walls were somewhere between antique yellow and bright yellow, and her house was utterly gorgeous. it looked like a chateau spread out over rolling hills.

i dont know what this dream meant but it has been bothering me and making me feel sad ever since I woke up. Also my head huts really bad and I have a sore throat, so maybe that was why i had such a strange dream.

no more complaining

Well today was a pretty good day. I had my appointment with a credit card counseling place and they advised me to not do credit card counseling. I am in better shape than I thought I was in terms of at least paying my bills on time and being able to pay at least the minimum balance, although at times I wasn't sure where the money was gonna come from. I am gonna keep paying as much as I can and maybe when I start doing substitute teaching and working for my mom it will be just that much more money I can pay towards my debt. It just sucks paying the same amount of interest each month cause I am not paying my principal. I am gonna download this thing from Rutgers that will tell me which cards to pay to save the most in interest as I go along. Also the credit card counselor advised me to start using envelopes to budget my money. I am actually really excited about this. A friend of mine in high school used to use envelopes, her mom taught her, and I used to ask her all these questions and it seemed so cool to actually save a little at a time so you would have the money in the envelope and don't feel guilty about spending it. I tried it once a few years ago and wound up messing up, if I felt like ordering pizza I would take out money from the envelope marked 'gas money' or something, then I would have to charge the gas. I am gonna try to be more self-disciplined about it this time cause I can see a lot of rewards for doing this.

Work was good today, I am really enjoying working as a website administrator for Blogsvertise. I like looking at people's blogs and assessing them. People write so many interesting, varied things. It is crazy and I could easily get sucked into reading them for hours. I was worried that people would have less interesting sites because they are aiming for money but actually the opposite is true, people are writing and they know they have to write about interesting, provocative things to gain readership. I am really impressed with the quality of most of the sites we get.

I never learn...

I never learn....I had coffee again this morning. I just feel so groggy in the mornings. Its funny cause last month I was waking up at 6 every morning, and I thought it would be such a relief to be in the office by 10 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. But really its like that old rule, the amount of time it takes to do something will be equal to the amount of time you have until its due. How tired I am when I wake up doesn't seem to relate to how much sleep I get. If i get 6 hours of sleep or 9 hours sleep I still feel tired when I wake up in the morning. I am just not a morning person and I hate it. I wish I could re-adjust my sleep schedule to feel nice and calm in the morning instead of deathly tired. I couldn't sleep last night so I stayed up watching TiVo'ed Dr. Phil. That show has hit the wall. Its starting to become like Jerry Springer, and the actual show is never as good as the previews. I don't remember if I mentioned this but I am strongly considering giving up tv all together. I have to look into which of my favorite shows are available on DVD after the season is over and I may quit the cable and get Netflix or something so I can still see my old time favorites like ER.

Which reminds me I have been meaning to rent the last season of Six Feet Under. I did not plan on ever watching it, something about the second to last season with the kidnapping plot and stuff really made me not want to watch it anymore, and I had been an avid follower of that show since its first episode ever. But then I was on Craigslist yesterday and someone mentioned what happened in the very last episode and it ruined it for me even though I had no plans to watch the last season at all. Now I feel like I might as well watch it so I may rent the DVD if its out, in the next few weeks.

I am debating on whether to start taking showers in the a.m. or p.m. I take them in the mornings to help me wake up, but since I can never get myself out of bed this cuts in to the time I have to eat a healthy breakfast and I wind up stopping at lousy McDonalds and feel like a greaseball for like the next 8 hours. Decisions, decisions. I swear it hits me that its no surprise I can't pick a career path if I can't even decide when to shower and be done with it!

Back again!

I am back again with more to write about! My stomach feels better although I skipped lunch. I might have something around 3 pm so I can have the energy to go to the gym after work. I am thinking something light like fried rice and a salad.

I just spent the last few days researching merchant accounts for a client and came up with a lot of good information. You'd think I'd be sick of writing about this stuff but sometimes writing about something just inspires me to keep writing about it to different audiences. Its like the opposite of writers block. So anyway I was doing a lot of research on chargebacks which is something I never really know what it was. I've had to file chargebacks for companies I've worked for but didn't take the time to become familar with them at all. Apparently its a widely known concept among people that do business over the internet or even do business at all. This is something that could really help me in the future if and when I set up my own e-commerce site and need to understand how accepting peoples money over the internet works. For example it is much better for a customer to contact you with a complaint rather than their credit card company. When they contact their credit card company this is called a chargeback, and if you get too many of them, Visa and Mastercard will drop you from being able to accept their cards! Can you imagine how bad that would be for a business??

Also I learned a lot more about offshore accounts for credit card processing and also setting up your business as an offshore corporation. This kind of stuff is really interesting, it is amazing how glib the websites are about annoying U.S. regulations. I always thought that kind of thing was kind of fishy but after doing a lot of research on the subject of offshore merchant accounts they seem to be perfectly legal and ethical. I guess Visa/Mastercard has set up somewhat of a monopoly in the U.S. regarding how business is supposed to be done but if you are not in the U.S. you are not forced to comply with the stiff regulations. This is good for businesses who do not fit the norm and are just seeking a way for themselves to be able to do business, too. It is only fair as long as your business isn't something crazy illegal or something.

I thought it was a good idea...

I stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way to work this morning for a small hazelnut coffee, light and sweet. I should have learned my lesson all the other times I have indulged in coffee-- it does not agree with me. My mind has been going bzzzzz like a bee all morning and I can't seem to focus on anything! Plus my stomach is rumbling around and making me feel sick. I don't usually drink coffee but sometimes I really feel in need of a pick me up in the morning. Then I live to regret it the rest of the day, although it does make the time go by faster cause it is more exciting in a way!

My room has been such a mess lately. Its all nice and decorated but with the addition of two new ferrets the stink is becoming out of control. It was really good for a while, I have been cleaning my room a lot more often than I used to so the smell was practially non-existant, even cleaner than when I had only 4 ferrets. But I lapsed a day or two and I haven't been mopping the floor or washing the sofa as much as I should to keep things under control. Its like when I work full-time it doesn't matter how sedentary my job is, I am tired at the end of the day and don't feel like doing anything. Then on the weekends I am too self-indulgent with myself, thinking the weekends are my time to relax and have fun.

I am really contemplating doing away with my tv and most of the internet except for my email checking capabilities (just because sometimes I get an important email or two). At least then I will be so bored I will do housework! I am thinking of making it my New Years Resolution although I would like to make it sooner....I hate to give up some of my favorite shows like House and ER though! Especially since right after the New Year is when the new seasons of shows start like the new Apprentice will probably start then. I have to see which of my favorite shows are available on DVD at the end of the season, maybe I will just get a Netflix account or something.

Okay thats all for now I hope my stomach feels better soon!

Its been a while....

Well it has been while since I had time to dedicate to my internet blog. I have been busy with other projects and my own blog has taken a back seat. One personal project I have been working on is registering a business name with the state of NJ so I can start selling stuff on eBay. I need a business name and reseller license so I can go to exhibitions and buy products wholesale. I am going to go with my original idea of pet products to start with. I have received the advice from beginner eBay sellers to not require a lot of something I couldn't use myself if it turned out a big bomb when I go to try and sell the products. So I am gonna start out with pet products like dog treats or something. Start off slow. I have considered whether I am going to use PayPal or a more sophisticated payment system such as AdvantageProcessors.com. I am still not sure yet. I was looking for information on what PayPal charges me for credit card transactions but so far it seems like this Advantage company has really low rates for internet merchants like me. I guess first I will complete the neccessary paperwork which is taking me a while because I have to get hold of a fax machine! I never have any stamps around my house and who has time to make it to the post office during the inconvenient hours. I also have to design the graphics for a business logo and such. I have been taking classes on Small Business Management so I am learning the importance of building strong relationships with vendors and other contacts as well as the administrative costs incurred when you don't outsource smart tasks such as the credit card processing.

I guess I will write more tommorrow. Maybe I will talk about how my room decorations finally turned out.

Challenging Days

Its been a challenging last few days. I was sick over the weekend and it wasn't pleasant at all. I think I ate something bad because I had pains in my stomach every night. We were in Atlantic City and I decided to wait in the car in the parking garage for everyone to be finished gambling, I just wanted to lay down and be away from the bright lights and tons of people. I didn't win any money but because I was sick I didn't lose any money either so thats the bright side of things.

My friend is back from her trip to Prague, Budapest and the Czech Republic. I am so envious of her seeing more of the world, I definetly am a person with an urge to travel and see the world. I have got to be more frugal with my money so I can plan a vacation also. I am going to Canada next week so that is something to be excited about. I just hope my stomach pains subside by then.

There is a new project I am working on related to an internet credit card processing company . There are so many internet-based businesses out there. It seems like everyone has something they are peddling online, and this company provides an easy, fool-proof way of accepting credit cards from customers. The internet marketing company I work for uses it, as a matter of fact. This is very interesting to me because a while back I wanted to develop a website selling high-end pet products. It was when high-end dog items were just becoming popular but I think the ship has sailed regarding this type of product, considering I think every little city near me has one now. I wish I had known how easily I could set up a website for internet sales though. Once you have a website set up, which isn't all that hard in this day and age, you sign up for a merchant account, which allows you to accept credit card payments online.

I'm gonna go try to get some other work done but I will probably be back later!

It's Been a while...

Well it has been a while since I last wrote. I haven't been doing too much, I took Monday off of work which was nice. I feel like I have so much stuff to do aside from work! I just don't know how people who work even 9-5 get anything done as far as doctors appointments, getting shopping erands done, even keeping the house clean! It is crazy! There is so little time left to do anything productive at 5 o'clock. And I get off of work at 3! I guess I really need to think about where my time is going and if I am slugging around.

I am going on vacation soon. My boyfriend and I are going on a road trip. Its for about 2 weeks time that we are gonna be going. But we are not sure where we want to go even now, so soon before the trip! We both have the feeling that we want to see more of the U.S., especially the cities in the South- New Orleans, Atlanta, I was pushing for Miami, I wanted to go as far as Texas or further. The song 'Welcome to Miami' keeps running through my head (I have never been there). But heat is a big factor. Since we will be in the car a lot of the time with the a/c running, John thinks his car will overheat. Plus the price of gas will be that much higher with the AC on. So then I guess we are thinking of going North, to Maine, Niagra Falls, Canada, etc. It seems more boring to me, cause I was kind of pining for something glamarous, but I guess what is the point of going somewhere glamarous if you have been in the car for the past 2 days lol. I just don't know if I am up for a huge hiking trip cause that is what I am imagining it will be like.

My company has been trying a new idea out of paying people to write articles for blogs, and I am considering signing up and writing up some stuff. I know a lot about animals and pets so I am considering writing a few articles and picking up some extra cash. I bet it would be pretty quick to write one about about something in the news too, although I don't know how much depth I would be able to get into.

I have to go pick up my textbooks by the end of the week to avoid the long lines. I am so excited to start taking classes again! I hope they are helpful.

Annoying Companies

Well I went to my new gym for the first time, and I was supposed to have a nurse health evaluation consultation thing. They just check your blood pressure and pulse and make sure you won't drop dead and sue them, I suppose. So anyway, I filled out this health questionnaire, and, being dumb, casually checked off that I had a heart murmur cause once a random doctor was listening to my heart beat and said, casually, "Oh you have a slight heart murmur" and i said, 'really? and he said, "yeah no big deal". So the nurse guy (who was like 100 years old and made me touch his hairy arm while he was taking my pulse) freaked out about my heart murmur and told me I need to get my doctor's approval to work out. Little does he know I have been working out there for 2 weeks under a free trial! So he hands me something to fax to my doctor and i figure ok I will just keep cool and get this done, no problem.

Today, I called my physician's office and said I need the doctor to fill out some paper saying I can work out at my gym, and the receptionist says to me, "Sorry you are gonna have to come in for that." Then I say, well, I have had a physical in the past year. And she said no, they are requiring people to make an office appointment for any forms from now on. Is that ridiculous or what? And people wonder why health care costs are astronomical in this country. I don't even know when this policy changed, but it is idiotic, pure and simple. I am definetly getting a new doctor, not to mention my doctor's office is like 40 minutes away and now I have to drive there for 5 frigging minutes after work. I am really pissed off about this. I wish I had the nerve to tell them off.

Today I have been submitting my site to dozens of blog directories and posting a lot on message forums, trying to learn more about blogging but also to gain exposure to the blog. Its hard work! I sometimes can't get over the idea that I have nothing much to write about. I am waiting on writing on the real estate housing complexes until I have the last bit of info on The Excelsior building which I can't find info about anywhere. I am also gonna start writing articles for a new blog on search engine optimization for my boss. That should be interesting as the prior writers wrote some pretty technical stuff and I am no expert. Did I mention my degree is in Psychology?

Long Day

Ever since I came back to work at my marketing company my days have been dragging a bit. Its hard writing articles on stuff that you are not that familiar with! There is a ton of research to do and then just writing in general can be taxing if the words don't come quickly. I have decided after all this I don't envy journalists, thats for sure! Imagine having to write an article on something you know nothing about! I can imagine trying to be a journalist, and of course you have to take any old position in the beginning, and can you imagine being assigned to the sports section and knowing nothing about sports! Not to mention I am the type of person that only likes learning a ton about something that I have a huge interest in, otherwise its hard for me to be bothered.

So here is the article I wrote today on measuring windows for blinds (I'll update a link when article is published). I borrowed a little bit from the information on the blind company we are working for- how many different ways can you write out instructions on measuring windows??

Yesterday I joined the gym finally and I am so excited to go there today and get my ID card and make an appointment with a trainer.

I have been assigned to work on a new project as well as the ones I am currently writing on. This one is a real estate agent in Long Branch, NJ. This is right up my ally, cause I still have an active real estate license and know a lot about the different aspects of buying and selling homes. I worked on articles for the website yesterday- writing about different housing complexes in Long Branch: the Renaissance, Pier Village, and the Villas. I must say, the places were so nice I want to move there myself! I love some of the great towns in NJ- especially now that the state and towns have been putting a lot of work into building up waterfronts and having more to do. Especially since housing is more affordable in Monmouth County compared to other areas of the state and nation, although I may have a warped sense of what is affordable given the real estate prices everywhere!

Back from the Weekend

Well I took the day off of work yesterday just to prolong my birthday a little longer. So here I am back to work and i have that brain fog where I am not sure what I was doing when I was last here and I don't know where to start. So I decided to write a blog entry on my weekend since that is part of my job! On my birthday I was on the beach most of the day and we also went jet-skiing, but the bay was really choppy and windy and the water kept splashing us in the face so bad we could barely see so we turned in the jet-ski's early. It was a lot nicer on the ocean side of the island! I happened to get a lot of gift cards this year, so I have a lot of shopping to do. I get to pick out a new phone and buy some new gym clothes among other things.

I have been thinking a lot about money and my lack of it. My biggest goal for this year is to pay off all my debt and start fresh with building up my savings and not having to worry about money. One thing I am gonna pursue is making extra money on the internet here and there. I am not at the expert level where I could make much yet, especially cause I don't have products to sell, but my boss is working on this new project where you can connect with companies who want to advertise on your blog site. I don't have a ton of readership yet but I am hoping to get there eventually, and I signed up.

Well thats all for today, hope anyone reading this is having a good day!

Birthday Weekend!

I have been so excited about this weekend! Its my birthday weekend (my birthday is Sunday) and my boyfriend said we could do whatever my heart desires this weekend. I don't have many big ideas but I definetly want to rent jet ski's one of the days. I love when my birthday falls on a weekend cause I feel like the celebration gets stretched out into the whole weekend instead of just one day. My best friend's birthday is today so after work the celebrations will begin lol. The only little problem is that Sunday is also my grandmothers birthday (we are born on the same day) and she is turning 85! So I didn't even know it was such a big milestone until yesterday and now I feel awful that the whole extended family isn't getting together for a huge celebration or something, but no one is. My sister and I are gonna take her to lunch on Saturday but that is it. It stinks I wish better planning had gone into the whole thing.

I have to admit I hope I get lots of thoughtful presents and I have a fun weekend!

Home Decorating

I have been working on home decorating ever since I moved into my new home. Since i live with a room-mate, its been hard to get things done in the main shared living areas, but I have significantly changed around my bedroom. It used to be a drab dingy white with no careful arrangement of furniture but boy did I give it a complete makeover. At first I couldn't decide if I wanted something really cheery like yellow or bright green, but then I decided I would get tired of that quickly and I wanted to steer away from a country kitsch look. So I decided to go with a warm chocolately brown. Then I couldn't decide what color to paint my ceiling- I didn't know if brown was the right choice for my ceilings so I went with a warm off white. Its kind of a big contrast so I painted some walls cream as well instead of just the ceiling. Then I went for really crazy by painting my trim around the floors, doors and windows with the new Ralph Lauren metallics in bright gold. Its looks fantastic- I wish I had the nerve to paint the entire room gold. Then I bought a deep red bedspread set and a really nice sofa from IKEA.

The only thing I haven't done, as I mentioned in a previous entry, was get around to buying blinds. After doing a ton of research for the articles I have been writing, I think I am really ready. I originally wanted ebony wooden blinds, but since I am on a really tight budget, I think I am gonna go for an off-white, almost beige roller blinds. I think they add a unique look because I don't see them around as much anymore. Plus my pets won't mess around with them too much. I actually really want the color you see on that link there! That looks so beautiful, especially with the plants and stuff.

What a nice weekend! I sure hope everybody reading enjoyed theirs as well. Like many, I was lucky enough to get a five-day weekend cause I had off Monday as well as Tuesday. I did plenty of fun things- I went to a barbecue on Saturday, Sunday we went to Atlantic City, Monday had a lovely day at the beach and went out to dinner at night, then on the 4th-of-July I hung around on the beach and just had a quiet time with my pets and the tv at night. Today was a bit of a rude awakening to get back to work! But I had a new task to work on today and I enjoyed getting in that 'zone' where I am working on something intently and am really focused on getting the job done.

What I did today was look for information on window treatments like window blinds and shades and how to shop for blinds depending on what you are looking for. Today I worked on an article on choosing blinds and shades for the bedroom. When I first started out on the topic I wasn't sure how I would find anything different in choosing blinds for a bedroom compared to any other room- how different could the choices be? You don't think about these kinds of things unless you are in the midst of a current decorating project or are looking for solutions to insomnia. So I had to do a lot of internet research on the subject and I did find some important things to consider. One is whether you want your room dark or bright in the morning. If you have trouble getting a good nights sleep you would want your room to stay dark in the morning to get that extra bit of deep sleep. For people who are early risers, they may want their blinds and shades that allow a lot of light in because they like to wake up to the rise of the sun. This is definetly not for me- since I can't ever get to sleep at night I need all the extra sleep I can get! I definetly wish I was the sort of person who could fall asleep early at night and slowly wake up when the sun rises and not feel groggy because of lack of sleep.

Also nowadays they have remotes for your blinds! Who knew? I, for one, love all the luxurious features coming out for household items like window blinds. I'd love to be able to close the blinds while I am already in bed and laying down to go to sleep, or if I am watching TV in bed and don't want the glare on the television screen but am too lazy too get up out of bed.

Today after work I have to get quite a few things done- I am starting on a diet so I have to go get some healthy food at the grocery store. Also I have to get back into the gym, and if I have time I want to wash my bird's cage outside and give it a good cleaning. I hope everyone had as pleasant a holiday weekend as I did!

Busy Days

I've had a couple busy, productive days. My website marketing company I work for was closed on Friday and I was supposed to work from home, so I am getting some things accomplished today and on Tuesday when I get back from the shore. Unfortunately there was some mistake when I forwarded my office mail to my personal email account because I didn't get any of them. I don't know what happened I guess this is what happens what you aren't familiar with Microsoft Outlook. But luckily I remembered my blog admin address and so here I am typing up some of whats been happening with me.

I was looking around the internet to see what else is out there for me to do to get more benefits out of my blog. I have already signed up with my internet marketing service to get more traffic to my website and have more readership and comments and stuff. Then I was noticing how on other people's blogs they have these banners advertising stuff like insurance and video games and stuff. Apparently the companies will pay you to display this stuff on your website, whether it is a regular old-fashioned website or a blog. Sometimes they pay depending on how many people click on their banner, and now they are doing it where they pay you per month or week and stuff. This second option seems like it would work out for me. Then I couldn't figure out how to find the companies who would pay to advertise on my site. This whole process reminds me of how those companies will pay you to paint a huge logo on your car- like they do with the Volkswagen Bugs and Cooper Mini's. So anyway, I stumbled across this internet advertising service which seems to do everything for me! So I am gonna sign up and see how it works out, hopefully someone would be interested in this site cause it is generating a surprising amount of traffic since I started publishing! Now I just have to get the reader's to comment so I can see what they think of my site and what they want to see more of.

Well I am gonna head out to a friend's barbecue tonite. Hopefully we will play some poker cause I was playing last nite with some friends of mine and I wound up winning the pot! It was the first time I have ever played Texas Hold 'Em besides just for fun with no betting.

Have a nice Fourth of July everyone!

My Day

Today also went by fast- I am really enjoying a job where I can listen to Podcasts all day long, it makes the time go by so fast and I feel like when I am doing humdrum stuff I at least have something interesting to listen to. Even when I am doing something that involves critical thinking it helps to have something else going on- I am a big multi-tasker and I work better when I am doing more than one thing simultaneously. I remember in college I couldn't study without a t.v. on low volume in the background. I can't even fall asleep without a tv on!

Speaking of falling asleep, I've been sleeping on a couch I bought at IKEA a few months ago. I redecorated my room 6 months ago- I changed the paint color so that the room is brown, gold, and cream, and I also bought a new sheet set and comforter from IKEA. It looks really great. I have a bed in my room, but for some reason I like sleeping on the sofa a lot better! I can see the tv best from the sofa rather than my bed, and its just a weird phase I am going through I guess. I decided to buy some cool new pillows at Linens and Things the other day so I can sleep in style. The only problem left with this whole arangement is that my sofa is right under the window- every morning when the sun comes up it glares right on me while I am sleeping! I took my old, ugly blinds off the window when I redecorated six months ago and then really never got around to getting new ones. I am getting a tan by sleeping under that window! Seriously, though, its awful- the room gets so hot during the day even though the air conditioner is on and then I wake up sweating in the early morning (way earlier than I intend to!) because of the sun coming through the windows.

The reason I never got new blinds was mostly because I can never get around to going to the stores to shop for the right ones. I prefer to relax and doing fun things in my free time, and that doesn't include driving through traffic to get to a store, trying to find a parking spot (and I am one of those people who will drive around forever for the perfect spot), and then getting dissapointed when they don't have what I am looking for. Not to mention, last time I forgot to write down the window measurements before I went and the whole trip was a waste. The other reason I have been reluctant to go shopping for the new blinds is because I am looking for something specific to go with the new decorating theme. I don't want the standard white ones that are in every house. I put a lot of effort into picking the right paint colors, bedsheets and pillows, etc. and I want something that looks unique and goes well.

I don't exactly have a clear idea of what I want, but I am pretty positive I want dark faux-wood blinds to match the chocolate color of my walls. I found pretty affordable blinds on the internet, but they are still a little out of my budget being that I haven't had a steady income in a while. So...I am thinking now of using sheer window shades instead. I like them because some ambient light comes through still, and I am definetly the kind of person who craves light coming into the room during the day. They even have special light-blocking shades that are supposed to be amazing at keeping the light out and harmful effects when you want a darkened room. They have a really pretty 'wheat' color at Guaranteed Blinds, where I have been browsing now that I finally got around to making buying blinds a priority. The whole process is so much easier now when I can look through the different options while doing other stuff online at the same time. Next I just have to get around to measuring the windows to get the right size. Thats another thing that kept me from getting this task done- I didn't even know how to do measure the windows! I didn't know whether to measure just the glass portion of the window or from trim to trim. After doing a little research, I discovered I actually have a choice on how to measure for window blinds. After reading about it, I think I will mount the blinds on the window frame itself, rather than over the trim, so people can still see the faux-gold window trim which took me forever to paint!

I think I am gonna order the blinds next week after I get my paycheck. It will be so nice to get a good nights sleep finally, and save money on my energy bills while keeping the room dark and cool!

Today went by fast!

I am able to get a lot more done at Discount Click marketing company when I am listening to music on my I-Pod. I especially like listening to all the podcasts out there like Dr. Joy Brown. Today I kept going with the filing...there are papers and junk mail dating back to 1996 and 1997! Instead of sorting things by subject I decided to re-organize all the papers alphabetically. I saw a system like this in my last temp job and it seemed to make refiling and finding papers a lot easier. Then I went ahead and divided the paperwork into two different filing cabinets, a smaller one for personal files and the larger one for company paperwork. I am still debating whether this is the best system since in the older filing cabinets personal and company paperwork files are mixed in side-by-side. It would take a whole 'nother project to go back and reorganize the other drawers at this marketing firm.

I really don't mind organizing things into systems and creating efficient administrative systems, as long as I have the right supplies on hand to get the job done right. You need to have enough space in filing cabinets for all the paperwork. Then you have to make sure you have plenty of hanging file folders- I hate when the folders get too stuffed and just messes up the neat appearance. I am not sure how I feel about the regular colored file folders. I think I may prefer to just keep the papers in the hanging folders and have one hanging folder for each company- keeps the files a lot smaller. And PLENTY of tabs and the paper insert thingys. I usually dread the piles of paperwork beforehand but get a real sense of satisfaction out of creating neat and organized workplace so that things run a lot more quickly and smoothly in the future with more mail. Now if only I could get my 'boss' at Discount Click Internet Marketing to keep all the incoming mail in one place or even learn how to file it himself when I am not in the office for months!

Hello

Well I finally got my blog set up for me to write in every day...its been a while since I worked for this company cause I pursued some other endeavors for a while. I had tried being a real estate agent- boy, it is as hard as they say it is! It really seems like nothing to it before you start- you think if you do your job and are friendly and organized people will want to do business with you automatically, but it just isn't true. Real estate involves a ton of cold calling, soliciting people- it seemed odd to me cause how often are you gonna stumble upon a household that is actually in the real estate market at the present moment. Its like when I worked for a home security company that did most of their business by telemarketing - it seems like the odds are extremely against you with the idea of calling people in the hopes you will reach someone who just happens to be thinking of an alarm system. Then you do the Open Houses, which can be such a waste of time. The worst part of it for me was driving all around beforehand and putting up the directional signs. Especially when it was sweltering hot, raining, or freezing cold - basically always! I usually wound up getting sleepy and hungry during the Open House, its only once in a while that more than 5 people would come, maybe I made mistakes picking the right houses or something. And I found my age - 23 - really created a barrier for me when trying to connect with home buyers who would have confidence in my abilities. I had a hard time with real estate - it is hard to sell something when I didn't have any sales experience that is so expensive as a house!

I am still thinking of pursuing jobs in the sales sector though, starting with the one I am at now called Discount Click. This blog is actually my first big project that I am responsible for maintaining and updating on a regular basis! Working at this company is giving me a ton of experience on how to market websites for the search engines. I never knew there was an entire industry set up for this behind-the-scenes advertising. Before I started working here I thought it would be enough to sell a good product that people would want, but I realized quickly how naive of me that was, at least for the internet world. There are billions of websites out there, and it is not enough to have a good product anymore unfortunately. There is so much marketing that goes into any web site. Think about it this way- there are so many sites to choose from when you search for even the littlest thing, so the key is to be at the top of the search results. Otherwise, how many are you really gonna search thru before finding what you are looking for or giving up? Gosh, when you see the results you can get with using website marketing strategies it is enough to make me want to go out and make my own site- I have so many ideas that come and go but working has has made me realize that if I did some careful search engine optimization I really would be guaranteed a shot at making some money off of my idea.

Now that I am doing other stuff in the sales industry besides real estate, it is more satisfying for me to provide a service for people instead of convincing them to buy something that isn't mine and I may not even believe in, for example not really liking a house I am doing an Open House for and not believing the asking price is fair. Anyway, I find it much easier to sell when I can provide a service that people value and can see the benefits of without having to do a lot of convincing, sales pitches and tactics. People appreciate the marketing we do for them, and they can see the results just by doing searches on Google or any search engine.
